Cave Giant

Cave Giant

Bestial tusks jut from the jaw of this hunched-over giant. It is clad in armor patched together from the bones of past victims.

Cave giants would measure close to a dozen feet tall if they ever rose from their perpetual stoops. Their skin tones range from slate gray to a dark mossy green.

Cave giants have manes of bristly black or gray hair that run from their heads down their backs. Their faces resemble those of orcs taken to monstrous extremes and framed with elephantine tusks. Cave giants clothe themselves in hides decorated with bones.

As their name suggests, cave giants live in rocky underground tunnels and caverns, rarely approaching the surface during the day. They keep giant lizards as smaller humanoids keep dogs, but they are cruel and neglectful masters.

Cave giants survive as hunter-gatherers, subsisting on subterranean animals and plants, yet they’re intensely envious of the innovations and yields other races produce.

Lacking both talent and patience necessary for creation or cultivation, they take what they desire by raiding other races or by enslaving them. Cave giants especially prize metal weapons, as they’re always at war, either with their own kind or with other races.

Though not particularly religious, cave giants pay homage to the god of earthquakes and eruptions, so the god is Talos. . Their priests are mostly barbarians and rangers, though a few divine spellcasters exist. The latter are often devoted to grand but futile schemes, such as freeing the Rough Beast or blotting out the hated sun.

All cave giants are proficient with handaxes, battleaxes, and greataxes.

Combining the features of ogres and feral orcs, cave giants are the embodiment of primitive brutality.

Stooped over in a perpetual crouch, cave giants move as if they had never mastered walking erect. Their faces mix the worst features of ogres and feral orc. The largest would measure 10 feet in height if they ever stood straight. The typical cave giant weighs 1,000 pounds. Though few survive past 60 years, cave giants can live as long as 150 years.

While they prove remarkably adept with axes of all varieties, cave giants lack the patience to work metal. What metal a cave giant possesses was likely stolen from other giants or worked by enslaved subterranean smiths.

Slaves such as dwarves, orcs, and troglodytes do most of the labor in cave giant settlements. Poor treatment and the need for meat keep slave populations small and ever-rotating. New slaves are brought in whenever raiding parties remember to reign in their blood lust. Any prisoners who fail to submit to their new masters find themselves served on the dinner table or tossed screaming into the giant’s cave lizard pens. Giant lizards of all types serve as both guard beasts and sport for the cave giants. Giant frilled lizards are rarely pets, as most cave giants opt to keep less dangerous monitor lizards instead. Kept in check only by fear and brutal beatings, such pets turn on their handlers at the first sign of weakness. At feeding time, live captives are tossed into the pens, a festive event filled with boisterous cheers and spirited betting.

Shadow Giant

Shadow Giant

Among the crude and simpleminded giant races, shadow giants possess a unique aspect: subtlety. They are feared andhated even by other giants, since they have a reputation for being murderers, thieves, and assassins against their own kind. They dwell in particularly dark areas, including those that areknown to border the Plane of Shadow.

Shadow giants look like a smaller version of a storm giant with white hair, gray skin and blackness surrounding them.  Shadow giants are nimble and elusive. They strike from darkness before retreating back into it. They rarely attack directly and prefer ranged attacks to melee.

Even among the normally xenophobic giant race, shadow giants are incredibly reclusive and distrusting. They prefer a solitary existence, though some band together out of necessity. The rare shadow giant that settles down typically makes its lair underground. Shadow giants are more cerebral and inquisitive than other giants, and they seek out knowledge as much as they do wealth. They have no compunctions about murder, and they have been known to contract out their services to kill other giants. Because of this reputation, most giants attack shadow giants on sight—storm giants in particular despise them.

Shadow giants worship the goddess Shar.

Bog Giant

Bog Giant

Bog giants are shy and reclusive beings who prowl swamps and marshlands to hunt dangerous predators such as black dragons.  They are ugly, disgusting creatures, with mottled froglike skin and long, stringy black hair. Bog giants have webbed fingers and toes, which allows them to swim faster than they can walk on land. The typical clothing for either gender is hide armor made from the skin of crocodiles.

Bog giants with sufficient intelligence typically learn Draconic in addition to Common.

Bog giants are found exclusively in swamps and marshes. They spend most of their time hunting, gathering, and scavenging rotting meat. They build crude, temporary shelters in the fallen logs and vines. Bog giants both venerate and hunt crocodiles, alligators, and other large reptiles. Most tribes keep “pet” crocodiles on tethers around their encampments. Bog giants are on friendly terms with lizardfolk, although sometimes the two races come into conflict when food resources are low. Bog giants despise trolls and attack them on sight.

Death Giant

Death Giant

Death giants can be found in the cold marsh and swamp lands of Esperia. They are huge in size, hairless, red eyes and very dark grey skin. They carry massive battle axes and a mist of death flows around them.

Once elemental beings, death giants relocated to the Negative Plane, where they evolved as soul-harvesting creatures. They now have little or no ties to the Elemental Planes and rarely associate with other kinds of giants.

Marsh Giant

Marsh Giant

The marsh giant a savage giant the color of stagnant swamp water.  Its skin is slimey, and its ears have a vaguely hole like appearance.  Animal bones, filthy, and crude wooden fetishes barely cover its brutish frame, and two black and blank fish-like eyes stare out.

Marsh giants often use their hooked club called a gaff.  Although weaker than most giants, marsh giants delight in hand-to-hand combat, using their sunder abilities on well armed opponents before crushing them. They often fight to the death, but aren’t above inflicting their contagion upon a weak constitutioned foe before fleeing a battle that has turned against them.

Fomorian Giant

Fomorian Giant

The Fomorian is a hideously ugly and grossly deformed type of giant-kin. They are not tolerated in any societies except those of the frost giants, hill giants and ogres who often use them for manual labour.

Fomorians are usually found in caves, abandoned mine shafts, or like areas, decorated by the half-eaten remains of their last meal. The strongest Fomorian rules over the rest, and females and children are treated no better than slaves. Violent acts are commonplace. Captives are usually tortured for their captors’ amusement, then eaten.

Fomorians try to catch a foe off-guard and hit as hard as they can while they are unawares, since, unlike other giants, they don’t throw boulders.

Fomorians worship the demon princess Emerta.
