Strix

Strix

The strix are a race of dark-winged humanoids who live in only a warm mountains and jungles of the south.

Grisly tales told by the local human population has made them the target of much hatred and fear; in truth, the strix wish mainly to be left alone.

Strix resemble humans in size and build, but are distinguished by their jet black skin, their 12-foot, raven-like wingspan, and their strange facial features. Strix have pointed ears, slitted nostrils, and eyes without pupils which, due to their large size, appear to glow in the half-light of the evening. Their eyes are fixed within their head, so to look around they have to move their entire head making them look either slow and sombre or jerky and skittish depending on how fast they move. Strix stand just over six feet tall, but considering their size, are quite light, weighing around 170 pounds.

Strix society is small and isolationist, and as a result is very tight knit.Strix have developed a deep hatred of humans; the precise origin of this hate is uncertain, but it is known that they deeply resent human intrusions and besiegement. Due to their limited numbers, strix have a very close-knit family structure, effectively all belonging to a single extended tribe. Within this tribe all work together to ensure the species’ survival. Murder is unknown except when committed by outsiders. The strix respond to these occasional murders in kind, but as humans outnumber them so greatly, they do not hesitate to take dozens, even hundreds of lives in revenge for the death of one of their own. Their isolationist nature has led them to assume that human society is as tight-knit as their own, so they take vengeance indiscriminately.

Water Elemental Weird

Water Elemental Weird

The Elements are known as one of the many primal sources of magic. Mortal mages and even beings of the outer planes draw on the energies of the Inner Planes to fuel their magic, but elemental weirds, as beings of the elements themselves, surpass them all at drawing on raw elemental power. For an elemental to become an elemental weird is to drink deep from the wellspring of magic, soar on the winds of fate, cast sorceries as the roots of the mountains, and burn with the fires of power, fully seizing their birthright as elementals. Those elementals and genasi who walk this path gain a terrifying mastery of the magics of the elements.

Elemental weirds are sometimes called the archons of the elements but they not really celestial but instead advanced elementals that can cast spells and use weapons and armor.

The water elemental weird is a humanoid elemental made up on water that wears a helmet, full armor and normally carries a long handled axe. They have a fierce temper and like to slaughter and drown their enemies. Like most creatures of the water element they worship the water god Istishia and found on the Elemental Plane of Water.

Water Genasi

Water Genasi

Genasi were human-derived planetouched infused with the power of the elemental planes, most often as the result of crossbreeding between humans and the powerful genie races or other elementals that dwell in such planes,. Physically powerful and cunning, genasi were a varied race with abilities that varied depending on their lineage and individual experience. Genasi were in a constant state of elemental energy, having no “neutral” state they could fall back on. Each genasi had a native elemental state, known as a “manifestation,” which was passed down to them through their ancestry. Genasi had a number of special abilities granted to them by their elemental heritage. As a rule, Genasi tended to be both stronger and smarter than most other humanoid races, traits which served them well. However, other abilities varied depending on a genasi’s elemental manifestation, although some genasi learned to manifest more than one element at a time or to enhance their natural elemental abilities. Genasi as a culture, likely due to the inherently chaotic nature of their psyche and bodies alike, have a strong affinity for change and chaos. Many genasi philosophers, recognizing now with the arrival of Abeiran genasi that all of the race have the same origin in crossbreeding, believe that their race was originally created as a compromise between the chaos of the primordials and the divinely crafted world of the gods.

Water genasi worship the water god Istishia and normally found on the Elemental Plane of Water. They have light blue to dark green skin and their hair is normally black, blue or green. They have webbed hands and feet and are great swimmers and can breath underwater naturally. The speak in a gentile tone but when pushed they do have a temper like a wild storm. They can be found on Esperia but mostly near coastlines or on the actual water. Some water genasi do worship the other water god the evil goddess Umberlee.

Water genasi are normally pirates, rogues, warriors or sorcerers.

Air Elemental Weird

Air Elemental Weired

Air elemental weirds looks like a humanoid made up of a cyclon of air and wears armor and carries a chain flail. They are more common found on the Elemental Plane of Air and they worship the god Istishia.

Merfolk

Merfolk

Merfolk are a race of humanoids that live underwater. A merfolk has the upper body, arms, and head of a fair-featured human, and instead of legs it has the scaled tail of a great fish. The most common of the merfolk is the female which is called the mermaid.  Merfolk’s skin can be anything from pale skin, blue to a dark green. Their hair can be blonde, white, dark green, red or deep blue. The fish scale torso can be of any colour as it all depends on the tribe and genes of the spawn.

Merfolk are normally found in the saltwater ares of Esperia living in caves or udnerwater caverns of the sea. Merfolk are also found on the Elemental Plane of Water as they are more comfortable in water.

Merfolk are marine, but amphibious, and prefer to avoid combat. Merfolk can be trained to be rangers or warriors but some are dedicated to the divine and become priests or priestess of the water god Istishia.

Storm Giant

Storm Giant

On the top of the giant hierarchy is the storm giants. Orginally from the Elemental plane of Water the storm giants are huge in size, green skin and long dark green hair. The sound of thunder can always be heard in the distance in their presence.

Storm giants are normally gentle in heart but when enraged they can throw lightning and cause massive storms at will. In Esperia the storm giants are located in the oceans or coastal lines. They usually wear short, loose tunics with sandals and headbands. In battle they eschew the traditional rocks of their kin and instead focus on their innate magical abilities and truly titanic swords or spears.

Storm giants are gentle and reclusive. They enjoy music and a well-tilled field. These giants live in castles on mountain peaks or, since they can breath water at all times, beneath the waves. Storm giants on land usually have good relationships with copper dragons and kindly cloud giants while sea based ones are often allied with bronze dragons and merfolk.

Storm giants worship the god of water Istisha.

Water Elemental

Water Elementals

Common creatures from the Elemental Plane of Water that are made of waves of water. Water Elementals normally take the form of massive humanoid shapes of water. They range in size from tiny to  colossal depending growth and power.

WaterElementals are not overly intelligent but filled with hatred, they do group together in organizations and have some grande cities located on the Elemental Plane of Water They defend themselves by drowning close targets or crushing them with wieght of water.  Water Elementals are not fond of Fire Elementals due to their heat.

Water elementals frequently join with creatures of water such as nymphs, water mephits, and marid genies.

Istishia is the godof water, he is worshiped by all water elementals. Water elementals are found through of the Elemental Plane of Water but they can found on the Material Plane of Esperia. They are summoned normally by clerics, druids or paladins of Istishia but some wizards and sorcerers can summon them also. Some cults dedicated to Umberlee use water elementals as gaurdians also.

The Elemental Plane of Water

The Elemental Plane of Water is the bottomless ocean. It is one of the four elemental planes. A water-dominant place, this plane consists in an ocean with no bottom or surface. As in its air-dominant neighbor, this plane has subjective gravity where creatures choose the direction they want to “sink”. Movement here is made through swimming. It’s a relatively hospitable plane despite the fact that air-breathing beings might find it difficult to deal with. It is home to water-elemental creatures and marid. The plane is made up of freezing cold water, boiling water, warm water, air bubbles, ice, currents, whirlpools, bores and weeds and coral.

 The City of Glass is built in a pocket of air trapped between a island of ice and a glass dome the city was created and discovered by the marid genies. The high genie was named The Shah and he named the city P’unkar.  The Shah created the city to make sea elves, sahuagins, kuo-toa and merfolk live together without war. The genies no longer control the city as a half-sun elf half-gold dragon merchant bard named Jalal Dragonblood entered the city and tricked The Shah. He made a deal that he could bring sunlight to the city within 10 days. Shah disagreed that he could not and promised the city if he could. The half-dragon tricked the genie by opening a portal from the Plane of Radiance to the city and the city was lost and gained by the merchants. To this day the marid want the city back under their control. The city is covered in glass as strong as steel, cobblestone shell roads, and the iceburg ground has a pink hue to it from the coral mix. The city is made up of many different districts now controlled by different races such as dwarves (Ale District), genies(Aleazar District), merfolk (Berg District), water genasi (Central District), sea-elves (Coral District), kuo-toa (The Deeps), nixies (Icelake District), halflings (Jewlers District), half-dragon elves (Drake’s End), selkies (Wormtown) and sahuagins (Sharks Tooth).

The Nereid is a large magical boat that travels underwater on the plane by steam thanks to water elementals and fire elementals. The boat was created by a wizard named Orion and his gnome assistant Cyrino as gift to sea queen Olhydra. He used the ship to escape her clutches and took the 250 foot boat away from her palace.

Olhydra’s Citadel, known as the queen of the sea this palace is made of black coral and sits upon a rock in the deep part of the plane. Inside the walls are black marble and strangle weed protects that entrances from invaders.

The Citadel of Ten Thousand Pearls is a massive palace home to a large community of marid genies. This sits on a floating coral reef and there is no one ruler. They are not open to outsiders and it home to many backstabing and assassinations. Slaves are common here and none leave without the permission of the genies.

The Avenger is a giant metal manta pay tha floats along the water ways of the plane. None no the true meaning of the ship. Some believe it is a cult dedicated to the god of water or Umberlee cultists, pirates that smuggle through the plane or locathah pirates that can shoot lightning. The truth is unknown.

Umberlee

Umberlee

Umberlee is the goddess of oceans, currents, waves, sea winds. She is also known as the Bitch Queen to worshipers and followers. She can be destructive and drown people as fast as she pleases. She hates Selune as she helps sailors find their ways through moon and stars. She has a close connection to the true god of water Istishia and some believe she is his wife.

Her mortal form is normally a very large and looks like a female water elemental but she has seaweed as hair and sometimes has a cloak of seashells and coral.

The symbol of two waves splitting and more common followers are sailors, pirates, weresharks and elemental priestess or priest that have a close connection to water.

Deep Wild is home to Umberlee, she has a vast sea located here that she controls and calls her lair.

Carsall (Manannan Mac Lir)

Located in the Azure Sea this was once a great city that was well known for trade. This port city worshiped the god of water Istishia and praised him and Umberlee greatly for the wealth. Through time the people of Carsall forgot about their gods and lived in greed and wealth. Istishia let this go for many years until the people of the city demanded that that his temple and the holy items be placed in the control of the city government. The church tried to stop this but the city council did it anyways and attacked the temple and killed the priests. Istishia had enough and used the creatures of the sea and the elements attack the city. Great tribes of tritons, merfolk, giant squids and dire sharks attacked the island and city. Earthquakes and tidal waves whipped the city from the realms. The great temple to Istishia was spared under the sea with it remaining priests. The priests were blessed by Istishia and polymorph into tritons and allowed their lives to carry on. The underground temple was then blessed with the name of Manannan Mac Lir.

The temple is now hidden under the sea deep in a cave and protected by kelp about 2 days south of the Dragon Teeth and 200 feet under.
