This 9-foot-tall reptilelike predator has a mouth full of gnashing teeth. It stands on two powerful legs and has only vestigial forelimbs. This ravenous creature is the most fearsome of all cave dinosaurs. It is more than 13 feet long from nose to tail and weighs about 600 pounds. The cave tyrannosaurus is a swift runner with a voracious appetite. It is both a hunter and a scavenger, seeking carrion slain by other creatures.
Velociraptor (commonly shortened to “raptor”) with three strongly curved claws, which were similar in construction and flexibility to the wing bones of modern birds. They are small in size but can travel in pairs and can be deadly. Velociraptor can be located in the south jungle much like the other dinosaurs of Esperia.
Pterafolk are a race of shape-shifting pteranodon-like humanoids nearly unique to the jungles in the south of Esperia. At first glance, pterafolk in their natural forms looked like tail-less lizardfolk or saurials, but they were much taller and leaner and had elongated cranial crests like pteranodons. They had smooth, fine scales, much like those of a snake, that ranged in color from forest-green to light shades of tan. Their arms and legs were thin and long, and their hands and feet bore sharp claws.
Similar to how a yuan-ti could change its form at will into a snake, the pterafolk could “unfurl” a pair of eight-foot-long, leathery, webbed wings for flying or even take the form of a small pteranodon. They tended to only use such forms when they wanted to fly.
While not all lizardfolk were evil, it was generally agreed that pterafolk were cruel and vicious as a rule. They were highly untrusting of anyone outside their own race.
Pterafolk distrusted magic, so spellcasters were very rare among them, and they would usually destroy any magical items they found as spoils. If the tribe was overseen by a spirit naga, it might train up acolytes who could cast divine magic.
Pterafolk did not wear clothing, except for belts and bandoliers for carrying small items. If they wore armor or used weapons—often barbed spears they were custom-made to not interfere with flight. Pterafolk lived either in large tribes or in small bands of between ten and thirty individuals. The smaller groups were disorganized and generally controlled by which ever pterafolk individual was strongest or loudest. Pterafolk lived in grass huts built high above the jungle canopy. Each hut housed one to four persons.
Seismosaurus was an enormous, long-necked, whip-tailed, small-headed dinosaur. It was among the longest land animals that ever lived. Seismosaurus’ nostrils were at the top of its tiny head. Its small mouth had peg-like teeth, but only in the front of the jaws. Its front legs were shorter than its back legs, and all had elephant-like, five-toed feet. Its short legs may have helped stabilize this enormous dinosaur.
Seismosaurus held its neck more-or-less horizontally (parallel to the ground). The long neck may have been used to poke into forests to get foliage that was otherwise unavailable to the huge, lumbering varieties of sauropods who could not venture into forests because of their size. Seismosaurus is a herbivore
The spinosaurus is one of the largest of the dinosaurs as some are even bigger then the T-rex. the spinosaurus walk on their hind legs and fore legs and stalk the jungles of the south and along the water ways. They are carnivores and eat large fish, humanoids and anything that gets in its way. The crocodile is related to this ancient beast. The best known character trait of the spinosaurus is the large fan like fin that runs along its back. This is actually made of bone is part of the spine of the beast.
Like other dinosaurs the spinosaurus is seen as a holy beast of the god Ubtao.
Stegosaurus had a distinctive and unusual posture, with a heavily rounded back, short fore limbs, head held low to the ground, and a stiffened tail held high in the air. Its array of plates and spikes has been the subject of much speculation. The spikes were most likely used for defense, while the plates have also been proposed as a defensive mechanism, as well as having display and thermoregulator functions. Stegosaurus had a relatively low brain-to-body mass ratio. It had a short neck and small head, meaning it eats low-lying bushes and shrubs.
The stegosaurus can be found in the southern regions of Esperia along the jungles and the Isle of Dread. Like other dinosaurs the stegosaurus is seen as a holy creature for the god Ubtao.
Bearing a large bony frill and three horns on its large four-legged body, and conjuring similarities with the modern rhinoceros, Triceratops is one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs. Triceratops species possessed a sturdy build, with strong limbs, short hands with three hooves each, and short feet with four hooves each. The horns are up to debate if they are just used for a defensive reasoning or a body function.
Like most dinosaurs of Esperia they are located in the south and along the Dread Kingdoms, it shares the landscape with and was probably preyed upon by the fearsome Tyrannosaurus.
Triceratops were herbivorous, and because of their low head, their primary food was probably low growth, although they may have been able to knock down taller plants with their horns, beak, and bulk.
Like all dinosaurs the triceratops is seen as a holy child of the god Ubtao.
A wemic is a creature with the upper body of a humanoid and the lower body of a lion. They roam the southern lands of Esperia and are known to be great hunters. Wemics live in large tribes and live in straw huts in the warm hills and plains. Dusky golden fur covers them from head to tail. Their tails feature a brush of black hair, and the males have a long black mane. Wemics’ faces are a mixture of humanoid and leonine, and their golden eyes have the slitted pupils of a cat.
Most wemics are warriors but some have become shamans or druids dedicated to Ubtao. Wemics do speak their own lanaguage but some have taken up a rough common with they are use to communciating with outsiders for trade.
The charau-ka are a race of little-known intelligent ape-men who live in the jungles of the south of Esperia. These small ape-men look like baboons but they live in tribes like people. These tribal baboon men are primal in equipment and most worship the god Ubtao but some have dwelled into evil under such demon lords like Demogorgon.
While some tribes are nomadic, most occupy abandoned villages or the occasional ruined city. Charau-ka villages usually stretch from the ground up into the jungle canopy. Charau-ka, while rumored to only feast on human flesh, are actually omnivorous. They gather fruits and nuts and hunt game, large and small. When attacking settlements, they do eat some of the dead on-site, but also take some prisoners for later meals.
Charau-ka do not manufacture much other than clubs, other simple weapons, and tanned leather armor. They scavenge metal weapons from the victims of their raids. Anything they cannot use or carry away is destroyed. They have little in the way of treasure. Metal, other than weapons, is not valued.
The couatl is a large winged serpentine creature of good. A couatl resembles a long, feathered serpent with a pair of rainbow-feathered wings that allow it to fly.
Couatls are known for their beauty, magic, and virtue. Because of their intelligence and devotion to good, they are worshipped by people who inhabit the same area as them. Their powerful minds are capable of great psionic might.
Found mostly in the south in jungle areas, couatls live solitarily, in pairs, or in flights of 3-6 individuals. Their intellect is above that of most humans, and, although they do not use weapons and armor as a human might, they often own treasure. They typically speak Common, Draconic and Celestial.
Couatl are seen as holy children to the god Ubtao and even some cults dedicated to Sune.
